Gavin Newsom (D) warned in a primetime address Tuesday amid President Donald Trump’s military response to the Los Angeles protests that this “assault” on democracy will spread across the country if Trump continues to go unchecked.

Newsom lambasted Trump, calling him a President who “wants to be bound by no law or constitution, perpetuating a unified assault on American traditions.” And he repeated his assertion that Trump was “fanning the flames” in Los Angeles “on purpose.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued a curfew for parts of downtown as anti-ICE demonstrations continued for a fifth consecutive day, some of which have turned violent between protesters and law enforcement.
