Oversight officials say the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department is blocking access to some shootings by deputies, despite state laws that authorize them to conduct meaningful investigations.

Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva is looking to get his old job back after announcing his bid for reelection Tuesday evening. In a video posted on X, he launched his campaign while standing in front of a banner that read, "Alex Villanueva, Help is on the Way."

Numerous outlets are reporting that at least three people were killed in an apparent explosion at a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department facility.

Three veteran Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department members assigned to the agency’s arson and explosives detail were killed Friday morning by an explosion at a department training facility, according to Sheriff Robert Luna.

In October 2017, the K-9 teams responded to the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, where 60 people were killed and 413 people were injured. Most of those impacted were California residents. For 10 days, LADA’s K-9 Unit provided emotional support to victims, family members, nurses and other first responders.
