In the latest step in its revitalization effort, Macy's has named 66 of the 150 stores it plans to close in the next two years. The move is "designed to return the company to sustainable, profitable sales growth," the department store chain said in a news release Thursday.

The closure is the latest drama on a stretch of East Market Street that’s been the focus of a recent and fierce civic debate over the approval of a proposed arena for the Sixers.

The moves are a “part of the Bold New Chapter strategy, which was announced in February 2024,” the company said.
