New San Diego Padres addition Nick Castellanos is sharing some of his feelings about what was going on with the Phillies.
The front end of the Padres’ rotation is set. The back end is now coming into focus, as well. On Saturday, San Diego agreed to sign right-handers Griffin Canning and Germán Márquez, sources told MLB.com.
The Padres acquired Nick Castellanos two days after his release from the Phillies, while Germán Márquez also joins San Diego.
The Padres need to add some pitching depth to their starting rotation. They can do this by trading Jake Cronenworth.
Fans of the San Diego Padres seem to have the same concerns. In this week’s Padres Reacts Survey respondents were asked how they felt about players from the San Diego roster competing in the WBC. Respondents were not unanimous in their position, but the majority said they hate that players from the Padres are competing in the WBC.
The 30-year-old is a former All-Star who was also one of the last pitchers to win a Silver Slugger award, as he won in 2018 after hitting .300 as a pitcher with a .650 OPS in 65 at-bats. He had 18 hits, one home run, and five RBIs that season.
The Padres are picking up another free agent pitcher, to bolster the team's rotation in 2026. Griffin Canning pitched last for the Mets.
