Republican Randy Fine from Florida is receiving flak for suggesting that he would ‘prefer dogs over Muslims’ in a recent social media post. This is not the first time that the US lawmaker has gone after the community.
"If they force us to choose, the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one," Fine, a Republican, wrote on X.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said on Tuesday that Democrats would hold Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) accountable for controversial social media posts about Muslims if they win the majority, but he stopped short of pushing for an immediate censure of the Florida Republican.
Fine, whose comments against Muslims have often sparked outrage, has dismissed the criticism and since doubled down on his remarks on social media. The Council on American-Islamic Relations designated the Republican U.S. lawmaker from Florida as an anti-Muslim extremist last year.
“Randy Fine is a disgrace to the United States Congress. He is an Islamophobic, disgusting and unrepentant bigot,” Jeffries said.
