Here’s How to See Two Comets and a Meteor Shower Light Up the Sky This Month
Skywatchers are anticipating prime viewing conditions for an annual showing of shooting stars and two comet flybys
Skywatchers may be able to catch the beginning of a modest meteor shower Monday night, before high clouds roll in. There will likely be too much cover Tuesday night to see any additional meteors. Orionid meteor shower The Orionid meteor shower peaks Monday night and early Tuesday (Oct.
The month of October is hosting multiple celestial events and one of them is a double-comet spectacle. Here's how to see the Lemmon and Swan comets.
Two comets may be visible in tonight's sky. Comet Lemmon and Comet Swan were only discovered this year, and both are visible in dark skies with just a pair of binoculars.
This statement might sound like a line from a sci-fi movie, but what if life on Earth didn’t start here at all? For decades, that question sat on the fringe of science, it was filed next to crop circles and UFOs.
Three meteor showers are active over Michigan skies, with peaks approaching. And a pair of comets are joining the show.

Astronomer captures rare video of comet and meteor intertwined
Gianluca Masi, an astronomer and founder of the Virtual Telescope Project, filmed Comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon above the town of Manciano on October 24. During his observation, a meteor streaked through the atmosphere, leaving behind a red trail that seemed to wrap around the comet’s blue tail.
Some Minnesotans were treated to an astral spectacle late Wednesday night, as what appeared to be a meteor flashed across the night sky in parts of Minnesota.
Comets Lemmon and SWAN R2 will be visible during October 2025 during the Orionid and Taurid meteor showers, creating a month of comets, "shooting stars" and fireballs.
NASA says the meteor shower is best viewed during the pre-dawn hours, but the sweet spot is between midnight and 2 a.m. Make sure to look to the southeast sky, near the direction of the Orion constellation to help spot the meteors.
Skygazers are in for a rare celestial treat later this month, as two dazzling comets, C/2025 R2 (SWAN) and C/2025 A6 (Lemmon), will pass closest to Earth during the same week that the Orionid meteor shower reaches its peak.
