Israel and Iran have opened a new chapter in their long history of conflict. Israel launched a major attack with strikes early Friday that set off explosions in the Iranian capital of Tehran.
For years, Israel and Iran engaged in a shadow war, a series of mostly quiet, often deniable attacks, with Iran frequently operating through allied proxy groups.
The Israeli military on Sunday released video it said showed the underground rooms where they found the body of Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar who is believed to have died in tunnels under a Gaza hospital last month.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Israel’s defense minister warned Saturday that “Tehran will burn” if Iran continues firing missiles on Israel after at least three people died and dozens were wounded Saturday morning, following a series of blistering Israeli attacks on the heart of Iran’s nuclear program and its armed forces.
The IDF has confirmed that senior Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar was killed in a May 13 airstrike targeting an underground command center beneath a hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza. Sinwar had succeeded his brother Yahya Sinwar as head of Hamas after Yahya and Mohammed Deif were killed last year.
He was the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, the former Hamas leader killed by Israel last year. Hamas did not immediately respond to the claim of his death.

The war began when Hamas-led fighters attacked southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 251 hostage. They are still holding 53 captives, less than half of them believed to be alive, after most of the rest were released in ceasefire agreements or other deals.
A senior Hamas official criticized the United States for treating Israel's demands as the "only response for negotiation," calling it a violation of "the integrity and fairness of mediation" in ceasefire talks.
U.S. stocks opened sharply lower and oil prices jumped after Israel launched airstrikes against Iran. Israel’s defense minister Israel Katz declared a special state of emergency following the attack.
