Forecasters said Erin should begin to slowly weaken as it increased wind shear. However, it's predicted to remain a major hurricane until late next week.
According to the 11 p.m. update Sunday, Aug. 17, from the National Hurricane Center, Erin was roughly 960 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, moving west-northwest at 12 mph with maximum sustained winds of nearly 130 mph.

An updated forecast map from AccuWeather shows Erin is expected to reach Category 4 strength by Monday afternoon. A Category 4 hurricane has maximum sustained windspeeds between 130 and 156 mph.
