President Donald Trump’s sweeping orders to end the government’s diversity, equity and inclusion effort mark a sea change for the country.

Trump plans to sign an executive order directing the federal government to recognize only two sexes, male and female, and treat them as biologically distinct and unchangeable from birth. The order would stop federal employees from using the term “gender.” Trump, however, used the term during his inaugural address on Monday afternoon.
