Epic, the Cary-based creator of the Fortnite video game, confirmed Wednesday that the town withdrew its zoning request to convert the old mall into a massive office space. Cary officials took this action due to Epic’s “inactivity” toward the project.

A rezoning application filed by video game developer Epic Games back in 2021 was pulled late last year due to inactivity, according to the Town of Cary's rezoning website. Cary officials confirmed the plans have been withdrawn during a Cary Chamber event Wednesday morning.

The rezoning application was withdrawn in December, three years after the video game developer filed to redevelop the vacant mall.
