Protesters stormed the parliament of the Russian-backed breakaway Georgian region of Abkhazia on Friday and opposition politicians demanded the resignation of the self-styled president over an unpopular investment agreement with Moscow.

The bill would allow Russian legal entities to build investment projects in a region of Georgia, which opponents say would price Georgian citizens out of the market.

A truck rammed the gates of parliament in the Russian-backed breakaway Georgian region of Abkhazia as hundreds protested against an investment agreement with Moscow. People were shown pouring into the courtyard and attempting to enter the parliament building.

Protests have erupted in Abkhazia's capital, Sukhum, over a proposed investment agreement with Russia, prompting the administration of self-proclaimed leader Aslan Bzhania to withdraw the draft law from parliamentary consideration in an effort to stabilize the situation.

In the capital of Abkhazia, protesters used a truck to breach the square in front of the parliament. Today, in Sukhumi, members of parliament were unable to approve the agenda and postponed the discussion regarding the investment agreement with Russia—a proposal opposed by many residents and the opposition in Abkhazia.
