Witkoff and the U.S. ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, visited an aid site in Gaza run by the controversial Israel and U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) on Friday, as the United Nations said that over 1,373 Palestinians have been killed while seeking food since the end of May, including 859 at GHF sites.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday (August 3) that he was "deeply shocked" as he watched the "horrifying" videos released by Hamas of Israeli hostages Evyatar David and Rom Braslavski that showed both of them in deteriorating physical and mental conditions.

The number of Palestinians dying from starvation due to Israel's offensive and aid restrictions continues to rise even as more aid begins to enter the besieged enclave.
