Orioles bolster bullpen with Jackson Kowar acquisition
The Baltimore Orioles added right-handed relief pitcher Jackson Kowar from the Minnesota Twins to strengthen their bullpen depth ahead of the 2026 season.
SARASOTA, Fla. — The Orioles have made their first cash trade of spring training. It probably won’t be their last. The Orioles on Saturday evening sent cash to the Minnesota Twins to acquire reliever Jackson Kowar.
Minnesota claimed Kowar earlier this offseason from the Seattle Mariners, and while he had been working to earn a role, he never established a firm place within the Twins’ crowded pitching picture.
Shipped to Baltimore
The Twins made a minor move to address the bullpen on Tuesday afternoon, claiming reliever Jackson Kowar off waivers from the Seattle Mariners. Kowar, ironically, had been designated for assignment just days earlier when the Twins traded catcher Jhonny Pereda, himself designated for assignment, to the Mariners for cash considerations.
The Twins dipped back into the waiver wire this week, grabbing right-handed pitcher Jackson Kowar after he was cut loose by Seattle. Minnesota had room to make the move and plenty of motivation, continuing a busy stretch of roster shuffling that keeps the back end of the pitching staff very much in flux.
The Twins designated Kowar (shoulder) for assignment Thursday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
The Seattle Mariners might have wanted to keep this pitcher around after waiving him, but the Minnesota Twins weren't having it.
