A grenade has not been found and remains missing after last week's explosion that killed three L.A. County sheriff's detectives, the sheriff says.

Oversight officials say the L.A. County Sheriff's Department is blocking access to some shootings by deputies, despite state laws that authorize them to conduct meaningful investigations.

Retired Capt. Mike Bornman is looking to reenter the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Bornman has launched a campaign hoping to unseat Sheriff Robert Luna during the 2026 election.
