Senate Republicans thwarted an effort by Democrats to pass a joint resolution that would effectively end the reciprocal and 10 percent baseline tariffs put in place by President Donald Trump in early April.

An evenly split U.S. Senate rejected the latest bipartisan bid to block PresidentDonald Trump's tariffs on Wednesday, hours after the federal government reported that the nation's economy contracted for the first time in three years amid the chaos of the president's tariff policies.

The Senate did not succeed in rejecting President Donald Trump’s global tariff plan after a vote on the resolution failed passage Wednesday evening. The Republican-controlled upper chamber voted in a 49–49 tie.
