Veteran right-hander Walker Buehler has agreed to a one-year deal with the Padres, a source told MLB.com on Monday night. The club has not confirmed the agreement, which is a Minor League deal and pending a physical.

Los Angeles Dodgers postseason history cannot be told without mention of Walker Buehler, who rose to prominence as one of the sport's best big-game pitchers in 2020. Buehler helped the Dodgers win the World Series that year and answered the bell on short rest in 2021 when Max Scherzer couldn't pitch.

The San Diego Padres have been busy making a slew of signings and continued that trend Monday when they signed a former Red Sox pitcher.

The Padres have reportedly signed Buehler on a one-year, minor league deal on Monday. Buehler's signing comes in the wake of the Padres, valued at $1.9 billion by Forbes, signing veteran slugger Nick Castellanos on Saturday. MLB fans reacted to the Padres signing the former Dodgers ace.

Walker Buehler would have made sense for the Phillies on a minor-league deal but took that minor-league deal elsewhere. The Phils will still have rotation depth options this month or next, though.

With confirmation on Monday from manager Dave Roberts that Tommy Edman will begin the season on the injured list, naturally conversation turned to what is now an open competition in Dodgers camp for playing time at second base.
