Mangiapane made it 3-1 with 5:06 remaining, and Ovechkin scored career goal No. 873 with an empty-netter with 58 seconds left after blocking a shot and going the length of the ice. Ovechkin is 21 goals shy of tying Wayne Gretzky’s NHL career record.

Filip Forsberg scored again on the power play, but the Nashville Predators fell to the Washington Capitals by a 4-1 final on Saturday night at Bridgestone Arena. The result sees the Preds finish the season series with a pair of losses to the Caps.

Now, credit to the Washington defense. Out of 76 shots the Predators fired toward Thompson, only 33 found their way through and 28 were blocked. Ovechkin himself had two shot blocks.
