COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina trooper has died three days after he was struck by a box truck while walking back to his cruiser following a traffic stop. Trooper First Class Dennis Ricks died Wednesday at the hospital, the Department of Public Safety said in a news release. He had been working for the Highway Patrol for two years.

South Carolina law enforcement are mourning the loss of a state trooper Friday after Trooper Dennis Ricks was killed in the line of duty. Fellow law enforcement officers and Trooper Ricks family honored his memory with a proper sendoff.

The trooper died nearly four days after being hit by a vehicle while performing a traffic stop in the Midlands, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
