The San Diego Padres took an interesting flier on this injured veteran right-handed pitcher for rotation depth.

The team has parted ways with long-time stars Edwin Diaz, Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo, while bringing in newcomers Freddy Peralta, Marcus Semien, Jorge Polanco, Bo Bichette, Devin Williams and others.

The New York Mets won't be reuniting with this hurler after all.

According to Robert Murray of Fansided.com, the Padres and former New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels starter Griffin Canning are in agreement on a one-year contract. "Free-agent pitcher Griffin Canning and the San Diego Padres are in agreement on a contract, pending physical, according to sources familiar with the deal," Murray reports.

San Diego added Griffin Canning and Nick Castellanos in a move that screams upside and volatility. It might work. It might get weird fast.
