AP Top 25: Texas tops preseason football poll, followed by Penn State, Ohio State
Texas received 25 first-place votes and 1,552 points to give the Southeastern Conference the preseason No. 1 team for a record fifth straight year. The Nittany Lions got 23 first-place votes and 1,547 points for their highest preseason ranking since they were No. 1 to open the 1997 season.
College football updated polls: AP Top 25, Coaches Poll rankings released for 2025 season
Sporting News looked at the AP Poll and Coaches Poll and compared that to our Top 25. Texas, Ohio State and Penn State are the top three teams in that consensus poll. Georgia and Notre Dame round out that top five, even though Clemson, which is No. 6, is ranked No. 4 in the AP Poll.
