The statue’s absence comes as concern has flared that the Godfather of Soul’s name may not be on the new downtown arena that will replace the James Brown Arena.

The statue will be securely stored in a climate-controlled environment at the Augusta Museum of History for safekeeping during the construction, according to a news release from the city of Augusta.
