After playing with a short bench over the weekend against the New York Yankees while Brendan Donovan dealt with an injury, the Cardinals placed their All-Star second baseman on the 10-day injured list Monday because of a left groin strain.

The All-Star infielder has missed games recently with left groin tightness and is also dealing with a toe injury.
