Deng Mayar, a senior forward for the Omaha Mavericks, tragically drowned in a Utah reservoir on Saturday. Mayar, who came as a graduate transfer to UNO after playing the previous two seasons for North Dakota, was only 22.

Nebraska-Omaha basketball player Deng Mayar drowned Saturday in a Utah reservoir, police said. Herriman police said Mayar died at Blackridge Reservoir after going underwater about 35 yards from shore.

The University of Nebraska-Omaha and the men's basketball team mourn the loss of student-athlete Deng Mayar. Mayar joined the Mavericks this past offseason after two years with North Dakota. He made 42 appearances and 15 starts for the Fighting Hawks.
