Wildfire officials say the fires that have burned more than 130,000 acres in Rio Blanco County have destroyed five homes.

Crews continue to make progress on two large wildfires burning in Western Colorado, although fire officials said one continues to be challenging.

The local college offers a program preparing students to face the front lines. The Colorado Mesa University Tech Wildland Fire Management Program prepares students to work with wildland fires in rural and outdoor areas.
