Significant progress was made over the weekend to contain and control the Elk and Lee fires in Rio Blanco County near Meeker.

Crews are making progress on two fires burning near Meeker, with the Elk Fire now 100% contained and the Lee Fire 61% contained, according to an update Monday.

Officials announced Saturday that the lightning-sparked Elk Fire, first reported on Aug. 2, 11 miles southeast of Meeker in Rio Blanco County, is fully contained.
