Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned Trump’s freeze on federal funds that state officials say put nearly $2 billion per month for police, health and childcare programs in limbo.

The unilateral decision by President Donald Trump to temporarily freeze federal funding already approved by Congress threatens up to $1.9 billion in monthly funding in Minnesota, Gov. Tim Walz said.

A federal judge has blocked a federal funding freeze ordered by the Trump administration, but not before Minnesota leaders could react to its possible implications.

State leaders in Minnesota, including Gov. Tim Walz, addressed President Trump's federal funding freeze​ Tuesday afternoon, calling the move "unprecedented" and "illegal."

Federal loans and grants to state programs were expected to pause starting at 4 p.m. but a federal judge temporarily blocked the move.

The governor's office said the freeze threatens $1.8 billion in federal funds usually allocated to the state each month.
