Wear OS 5.1 includes the long-awaited Loss of Pulse Detection feature for users in the US (it's already available elsewhere), as well as tweaks to the step-count algorithm and changes to media controls.

Select variants of the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 are now receiving the Wear OS 5.1 update as part of the March 2025 Pixel rollout.

Pixel Feature Drop for the Pixel Watch includes enhancements like improved step count accuracy and Loss of Pulse Detection. The Pixel Watch update is based on Wear OS 5.1 and Android 15, derived from Google's shift to Trunk Stable development.

To begin with the latter announcement, OnePlus has essentially confirmed that OnePlus Watch 2 owners will get Wear OS 5 fully one year after it launched on leading models from Samsung and Galaxy. Just to rub it in, Wear OS 6 will likely debut in the meantime.

We were concerned when OnePlus told us that the Watch 3 would only get two years of support. Now it seems to have been a misunderstanding.

OnePlus is typically among the first to update its Android phones to the newest OS build available. However, the company has been unusually quiet about the Watch 2's Wear OS 5 update, never providing any timeframe for its release.
