I'm using a Tombow Mono eraser here to carefully remove the graphite. This is one of my favourite erasers but the success of how effective it is relies on how it is used and the way the graphite has been built up. Shading graphite can be done by using different tools & techniques. When using the pencils to shade, I prefer to work with a blunt pencil or more of the side of the pencil rather than a sharp point as this can more easily create scribbles and harsh lines. I am always a little cautious at the base stage to not go to dark but it's about getting the balance right because if the base layer isn't dark enough the portrait will lack depth.
