Angraecum sesquipedale, commonly known as the Comet Orchid or Darwin's Orchid , is a special plant to look for here at Hawai‘i Tropical Botanical Garden on the Big Island’s Hāmākua Coast. Native to Madagascar, this orchid is famous for its exceptionally long nectar spur, which can reach over a foot in length. Charles Darwin studied Angraecum sesquipedale and predicted that a moth with an equally long tongue must exist to pollinate it, a theory later confirmed and now considered a classic example
